Newly elected mayor Chander Mohan Gupta has said his two primary duties would be to uplift Jammu to the standard of a smart city and to work aggressively towards the “Congress-free mission from Lal Qila to Lal Chowk”.

Talking to The Tribune, Gupta said with the responsibility entrusted upon him, he would ensure clean and green Jammu soon. For the purpose, he said he would ensure that the Jammu Municipal Corporation was geared up to take the jobs at the grass-roots level.

“My statement on the ‘Congress-free’ campaign relates to the initiative taken up by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As a BJP worker, I have already taken up this cause and will now work more aggressively towards this mission,” said Chander Mohan.

He said when the Emergency was declared in the country, it was followed by the fall of the Congress at the Centre. “The present time also matches the same period as the Congress is on its decline and it becomes the responsibility of all BJP workers to join hands in cleansing Congress off in the upcoming Parliamentary polls,” said Gupta.

He said he had already made a roadmap for a greener city. “Brisk plantation and ornamentation of Jammu city with flower pots will be taken up at various places. Besides, two auto rickshaws will be deployed in every ward, which will stay on the move to remove debris from the city,” said the mayor, adding that he foresaw a smart city status for Jammu and for the purpose, he would ensure that the JMC had the required strength.

His deputy Purnima Sharma said she would work in coordination with the mayor and ensure that problems faced by people are addressed.
