Admn begins swachhata campaign in city

JALANDHAR: With the objective of sensitising people towards making the city clean, green and pollution free, the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation (MCJ), Jalandhar, Diperva Lakra and Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja on Saturday commenced “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign by initiating cleanliness drive in Ward No. 53.

With the objective of sensitising people towards making the city clean, green and pollution free, the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation (MCJ), Jalandhar, Diperva Lakra and Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja on Saturday commenced “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign by initiating cleanliness drive in Ward No. 53. The campaign will be held from September 15 to October 2.

Officers, officials and elected representatives undertook the drive for around four hours. Adopting a holistic strategy for cleaning the ward the MC had conducted the survey of the entire area prior and has deputed eight teams comprising officers of the Health and Sanitation Department, Public Works Department, Horticulture Department, and others, to carry on the drive efficaciously.

Every team, comprising 35 members and machines, were allotted separate area for cleaning. The MC Commissioner and Mayor spearheaded the campaign from Mast Ram Park.

The Commissioner and Mayor said the campaign was significant for creating awareness amongst the people to make the state and district clean and green, adding that this programme was a step in the right direction to sensitise the people about cleanliness of their surrounding areas.

They called upon the people to be a part of the campaign as no such effort could be successful without the active support and cooperation of the people. Beside the Civic Body would leave no stone unturned for the noble cause. They said the campaign would be made a daily feature in the city to ensure that maximum number of people were made a part of the campaign.
