Phagwara, August 5
Opposing the amendments made by the state government to the Punjab State Civil Services Judicial Examination, activists of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by Ramesh Kaul and Chiranjeev Kala, today burnt an effigy of the state government in Phagwara. They termed the state government anti-Dalit.
The activists said: “The state government has issued a notification clarifying that the Dalit students can appear in PCS Judicial exams only four times. Earlier, the Dalit candidates were able to appear in these exams till the prescribed age.”
The protesters were demanding the immediate withdrawal of the notification. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to Phagwara Naib Tehsildar Mandeep Singh.
