JALANDHAR: In the results for zila parishad and block samiti polls declared by the Nawanshahr administration till 11 pm today, the Congress had a clear lead.

In the results for zila parishad and block samiti polls declared by the Nawanshahr administration till 11 pm today, the Congress had a clear lead.

The ruling party won in 53 of the 76 zones with results of 13 zones remaining pending. The SAD registered victory in 15 zones while Independents won in eight.

Of the 10 zila parishads, results were declared only for six. Of these, the Congress won four. The SAD and Independent candidates got one zone each.

In panchayat samiti, complete results were available only for Saroya and Aur blocks where the Congress had a clear majority. The party won 10 of the 15 zones of the Saroya block and 11 of the 16 in Aur. With incomplete results too, Nawanshahr and Banga block samitis have already gone the Congress way.

Balachaur, which has Congress MLA Darshan Manguwal, did not show up good results. The party had won only eight of the 14 seats declared so far. Results on three seats was awaited. The SAD got five and one zone went to an Independent candidate.
