On the eve of the festival of lights, the Fire Department of the Municipal Corporation today finalised its plan to check any eventuality in the city area during the Diwali celebrations tomorrow evening.

As per the plan, the city has been divided into six zones, each of which will be covered by a fire vehicle standing in the vicinity. Fire extinguishers will be stationed at Chowk Sudan, Rama Mandi, Nakodar Road, Pathankot bypass and bus stand, besides those in the main office on the old GT Road.

The Fire Department has 18 fire dousing vehicles, including 10 big and four small fire tenders, two jeeps, and two bikes. The department has 20 firemen but there is a plan to take additional staff from B&R and O&M branches of the MC.

Fire Officer Rajinder Sharma said: “Our office is fully prepared to check any untoward fire incident on Diwali. Since our number 101 sometimes gets busy, city residents must feed our alternate numbers 0181-2280344 and 2280355 in their phones during an emergency.”
