Hold protests at designated places in city, says CP

JALANDHAR: Praveen Kumar Sinha, Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, today said as per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court any person or organisation holding protest except at the designated places would be deemed illegal in eyes of the law.

Praveen Kumar Sinha, Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, today said as per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court any person or organisation holding protest except at the designated places would be deemed illegal in eyes of the law.

In a statement issued here today, the Commissioner of Police said the Punjab and Haryana High Court had recently observed that the kisan organisations should hold protests/ dharnas only at designated place.

He said any protest/agitation on roads/ highways and other places, without the specific approval of the District Magistrate would be deemed illegal and any such violation of the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court would be dealt with strictly.

The Commissioner of Police said in order to ensure minimum hindrance to the people during the protests, places had been designated in the city for peaceful protests adding that these places have been selected carefully to ensure that normal life not at all be disturbed.

These places include, PUDA Ground, opposite Tehsil Complex, Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall, PUDA Ground, opposite PIMS Hospital, Burlton Park and Dusshera Ground, Jalandhar Cantonment, he added.

The Commissioner of Police said these places had been designated for the purpose of peaceful protests with several riders adding that the protesters will have to seek prior permission from the Commissioner of Police before the protest and no weapon, including knives, lathis, besides others, will be allowed during the protest.

Protests only at designated sites

n In a statement issued on Wednesday, Praveen Kumar Sinha, Commissioner of Police (CP), Jalandhar, said the Punjab and Haryana High Court had recently observed that the kisan organisations should hold protests or dharnas only at the designated places. 

n He said any protest/agitation on roads/ highways and other places, without the specific approval of the District Magistrate would be deemed illegal and any such violation of the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court would be dealt with strictly.
