Insurance, bank staff hold protest

JALANDHAR: A massive demonstration was held by insurance and banking employees today.

A massive demonstration was held by insurance and banking employees today.

The employees said the call for a two-day nationwide strike was given by 10 central trade unions, associations and federation of the Central Government and state government employees, federation and associations of insurance, banking BSNL, electricity boards of various states and other public sector employees.

The two-day strike will be held on January 8 and 9. The strike will be held for opposing anti-worker, anti-employee, anti-farmer policies of the Central Government. The demands will include waiver of full loan of farmers and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations, settlement of pending wage revision of bank and insurance employees, end of labour reforms in labour laws in favour of corporate houses and stopping privatisation of the public sector.

Industrial workers, who are demanding minimum wages of Rs 18,000 and other social security measures, will also join the strike.
