In protest against the non-allocation of any allowance to the polling staff in exchange for the food cooked by them, a deputation of the Mid-day Meal Workers Union Jalandhar, headed by Jaswinder Kaur Tahli, district secretary, Mid-day Meal Workers Union, met Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Jalandhar.
The delegation demanded that while the workers prepared mid-day meal for polling staff on February 3 and 4, they had not received the allowances for the same so far. A demand was made for at least Rs 250, per worker and allowances for the staff for the services put in by them.
The delegation said that if mid-day meal workers were not given their allowance, they shall soon hold a protest dharna outside the office of the DC in Jalandhar.
They demanded from the Election Commissioner that instructions should be issued regarding the delay in the issuance of the allowance.
