Model selected in science fair

Jalandhar: City’s Police DAV Public School model “Agro Vision” under agriculture category has been selected among the top 24 science models exhibited at the science exhibition held at Sri Guru Harkrishan Sr. Sec. School, Amritsar recently.



Jalandhar: City’s Police DAV Public School model “Agro Vision” under agriculture category has been selected among the top 24 science models exhibited at the science exhibition held at Sri Guru Harkrishan Sr. Sec. School, Amritsar recently. As many as 155 models were put on display from 115 schools. Navneet and Aastha Sumra, both Class XI students of Police DAV, represented the model which was based on water management.  The winners were lauded by the school principal.

Table tennis championship

Jalandhar: Students of Innocent Hearts, Green Model Town, surpassed other teams with their efforts in the district table tennis championship. The championship was conducted in Hans Raj Stadium. Nearly 200 students took part in the championship. The school students played U-21, U-18 and U-19 categories. Kashika won gold in women and U-21 (girls) category and silver in U-18. Manya won gold in U-18 (girls) category and silver in women’s category. Hardik Chadha won bronze in U-19 (boys) category. Kashika, Manya and Hardik were selected for state-level tournaments beginning November 26 in Ferozepur.  

Quiz competition organised at HMV

Jalandhar: The PG department of Punjabi, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, organised a written quiz competition on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev in an event held in association with Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Ludhiana. In the contest, Simranjeet Kaur (MA Punjabi Sem-III), Simran Momi (BCom Sem-III) and Manisha (BCom Sem-III) got the first position. Amandeep Kaur (BSc Sem-I) got the second spot. Meenu (B.Voc. J&M) got the third position. Principal Ajay Sareen congratulated the winners and encouraged them to follow the path shown by Guru Nanak Dev. Navroop Kaur, head,  Punjabi department, congratulated Kuljeet Kaur, in-charge, Punjabi Sahitya Sabha. Nearly 70 students of HMV participated in the competition. 

School’s annual day celebrated

Phagwara: Swami Sant Dass Public School hosted its 20th annual day celebrations. Dr Satish K Kapoor (PhD, ex-British council scholar) was the chief guest. Principal Anju Mehta   welcomed the eminent guests and introduced chief guest to the gathering and read out the school’s annual report. Dr Usha Kapoor, retired principal, GNDU College, Jalandhar, gave away the prizes to the  meritorious students. The cultural extravaganza began with a scintillating invocation dance ‘Saraswati vandana’ followed by a play ‘Jiwan isi ka naam hai’. Performances like ‘Aadiyoga (Kathak yoga)’, ‘Kardo Humare Hawale’ and ‘Sufiana Qawali’ enthralled the audience. The skit ‘Rehdi Travels’ stole the hearts of everyone. The programme came to an end with foot tapping folklore of Punjab – bhangra. 

Lecture on tech, innovative skills

Jalandhar: A guest lecture was organised by the department of science, PCM SD College for Women, on the topic ‘Development of Technical and Innovative Skills’. Dr Vineet Khullar was the guest of honour. He said that students and science professionals in their early career should strive for sharpening their technical skills with an attitude to think out of the box which would eventually pay. One must inculcate within oneself critical faculty and acumen for reasoning right at the onset. He shared glimpses of his research in the area of near-field optics and potential impact of his invention.  

Cultural items mark annual day

Jalandhar: Swami Sant Dass Public School, Kindergarten, celebrated its 9th annual day with great fervour. Meenkashi Jain, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, was the chief guest of the show. Tiny tots Prachi and Mridul welcomed the guests. Head girl Garima read out the welcome speech. A string of cultural activities consisting of modelling, folk dance, masquerade costume delineating powerful characters of ‘Rani Jhansi’, ‘Mai Bhaag Kaur, ‘Chanakaya’, Krishna’, Hanuman’ and ‘Gautam Buddha’ were showcased. The budding actors mesmerised the audience through English play ‘A glass of milk’ and conveyed the valuable lesson that god showers his blessings upon those who help others. Head boy Sehaj Pal of KG wing proposed the vote of thanks. 

Thanksgiving day celebrated

Jalandhar: Thanksgiving day was celebrated with gusto at Eklavya School. The main objective of celebrating this day was to make the students aware of the harvest festival. A presentation was organised among all the students of senior school. During children day, students exchanged thanksgiving cards and enjoyed the day. Chairman JK Gupta, director Seema Handa, principal Arvinder Kaur and administrator Dimple Malhotra appreciated the efforts of students.

Workshop on mathematics phobia  

Jalandhar: An interactive workshop on mathematics was conducted at Swami Sant Dass Public School. Around 29 teachers from various schools of the city attended the workshop. An engaging session was conducted by principal TP Kaur, in which she dispelled the myths and phobias regarding maths that existed among students and parents. Anju Mehta, principal, Swami Sant Dass Public School, Phagwara, also conducted a session on ‘Basic maths teaching strategies’. 

Bhullar enthrals DAV students

Jalandhar: Noted Punjabi singer Gurnam Bhullar enthralled students at Jashan-e-Raina, the hostel night, organised by the students at DAV University. Known for songs like Diamond Di Jhanjhar, Pagal and Jhalla, Gurnam performed for more than an hour. On arrival at the university, he was welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Dr Desh Bandhu Gupta, executive director Rajan Gupta, registrar Sushma Arya and dean students’ welfare Dr Jasbir Rishi. The musical performance of Gurnam Bhullar at the varsity prompted students to tap their feet and enjoy to the fullest.
