Nawanshahr schools closed

NAWANSHAHR: The district administration also declared a holiday across all schools in Nawanshahr on Monday. Earlier, holiday was declared on August 20. Later, the administration declared a holiday on August 19, seeing the gravity of the situation and impending threat of floods. TNS

SDM inspects relief measures

PHAGWARA: In light of the heavy rainfall warning issued by Metrological Department, SDM of Phagwara Jai Inder Singh, along with the BDPO, naib tehsildar, and officials of the Drainage Department on Sunday visited various villages, including Rawalpindi, Malakpur, Sahni in Phagwara subdivision which lie along the drain. Talking to mediapersons, the SDM said the Drainage Department had been directed to clean the drains. He warned stern action would be taken against erring staff. All concerned departments have been directed to be ready for flood relief measures, the SDM added. OC
