Rs 2.08 lakh fine slapped on food outlets

NAWANSHAHR: The court of Amrit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-adjudicating officer, Nawanshahr, imposed a fine of Rs 2,08,000 in 27 cases on various food outlets, including cinema canteen, grocery stores, milk vendors, dairies, dhabas, food joints, sweet shops and manufacturers of banned flavoured tobacco for selling substandard, banned, expiry and misleading food items.

The court of Amrit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-adjudicating officer, Nawanshahr, imposed a fine of Rs 2,08,000 in 27 cases on various food outlets, including cinema canteen, grocery stores, milk vendors, dairies, dhabas, food joints, sweet shops and manufacturers of banned flavoured tobacco for selling substandard, banned, expiry and misleading food items.

Divulging details, Assistant Commissioner (Food), Nawanshahr, Manoj Khosla, said food safety teams had collected samples from various outlets which were declared substandard, misbranded, expiry, misleading, following which all cases were filed in the court.

He said the court of ADC (G) has imposed a fine of Rs 80,000 on four partners of Luxman Das Sheetal Kumar Jain, Grain Market, Nawanshahr, for selling four different brands of flavoured tobacoo, which are banned by the Punjab Government, and the court has also ordered to destroy 198 packets of Cool Lip Filter Tobacoo, S-4 Tobacoo, Black Label Tobacoo and M-1 Zarda, which were seized by the Food Safety Department during raid at the firm.

Canteen of Surya Cinema, Nawanshahr, has been fined Rs 3,00,00 for selling and using sub-standard cold drink and refined oil.

Manufacturer of S-4 Tobacoo Company Trimurti Fragrance and Flavour Private Limited, New Delhi, has been fined Rs 10,000 for manufacturing and selling flavoured tobacco, which is banned by the state government. Mohni Karyana Store, Kwality Dairy, Sloh road, Nawanshahr, have been fined Rs 10,000 each for selling substandard desi ghee and substandard milk and cheese, respectively.

He said under the Tandarust Punjab mission, on the directions of Kahan Singh Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Punjab, the campaign against substandard/adulterated food articles would be continued in the coming days too so that Jalandhar could be made an adulteration-free district.
