Ahead of Republic Day, security has been beefed up at the railway station and its nearby areas.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have been checking luggage of passengers at the railway station. The working hours of policemen have been increased from two to four hours. Leaves of all police personnel had been cancelled, said a RPF official.
Besides conducting checking on a regular basis, the RPF has also increased patrolling. Policemen have been asked to keep a tab on visitors and check their identity cards to ensure safety and security of passengers.
Two policemen each on every platform, on the railway overbridge as well as on entry and exit points have been deployed to keep an eye on everyone.
Assistant Security Commissioner (ASC) BL Masuria said beat officers had been directed to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
“A joint team of the GRP and the RPF is conducting search operations daily to ensure safety and security of passengers at the city railway station ahead of Republic Day. Additional police personnel have been deployed to avoid any unwanted incident. We have asked all officials to check ID cards and luggage of passengers,” he added.
