Jalandhar, October 13

The Department of Cambridge Assessment English, University of Cambridge, organised a seminar on “Artificial Intelligence and English language learning, teaching and assessment” recently. More than 35 English teachers from various schools and colleges across the state participated in the event. Principal research manager of the department, Dr Angeliki Salamoura, was invited as the keynote speaker.

The aim of the seminar was to focus on the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in English learning and how it can optimise both teaching and assessment. It emphasised how students can learn the language or basics of any subject in an interesting way with or without the help of tutors.

Dr Angeliki said with the development of Internet and information technology, the AI had made many breakthroughs in the field of education. She explained the techniques of learning a language through AI and how it was more effective than traditional learning or teaching methods. It involved engaging students in a conversation and providing feedback. It also helped teachers in knowing a student’s area of weaknesses. She also named a few applications to help improve English grammar, writing and speaking skills. – OC
