Ravneet Kaur (51) noticed her green thumb as a child, which she cultivated further over the years. Now, she spends at least eight to nine hours, tending to her garden named ‘GardenTuners’, every day and has little time to twiddle her thumbs.

Luckily for Ravneet, her husband turned out to be her biggest motivator, who insisted her to convert her passion of gardening into a profession.

And despite the relocations she had from one city to other, owing to her teaching profession, she has always managed to dedicate a small area at her terrace to gardening.

After quitting her job as principal of Cambridge International School, Batala, in 2017, she has been working on her startup – ‘GardenTuners’ and encouraging others as well to live green.

Ravneet said it was in February 2018 when she first participated in a flower exhibition organised at Jalandhar Cantt and exhibited her terrarium plants, tray gardens and exotic plants that fetched her a lot of appreciation.

She was then motivated to convert her land that she bought for investment purpose on the 66-ft road into ‘GardenTuners’ to live her dream as gardener.

She said her garden comprised of a collection of plants and trees. From stolon plants to bromeliad to terracotta, she also has natural chemical free hand-made soaps and customises plants for her customers.

She said the USP of her start-up is that she creates multiple real plants in a natural way without using plastic or any chemicals.

“We plant our saplings in hand-made pots, trays and other designer craft material that gives one’s balcony a perfect look of real garden,” she added.

Talking about her journey, Ravneet said, “I am into this start-up to promote green living and to live my passion for gardening. I am not looking to make profit rather I want people to come to my place and realise how it feels to be surrounded by plants and greenery,” she said, adding that she was soon planning to add pottery into her business with the aim to revive the old-age art.

She said she kept reading about plants and about taking care of these in books, magazines and on internet in order to keep her garden fresh and soothing.

She said she aimed to make her garden a welcoming place for all so that it encouraged people to plant saplings at their place too.

She added that today, most of the people, instead of conserving water are wasting it and instead of improving green cover to the desired levels, are ruthlessly cutting trees.

“Thus, if my small initiative inspires even 10 people to take home some plants, I feel my work as a gardening entrepreneur will pay off,” she added.
