Jalandhar, January 7

The Jalandhar Industrialists and Traders Joint Action Committee held a demonstration here today in which it pledged to campaign against the SAD-BJP alliance government against their “anti-traders/industrialists stance”.

Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, Gursharan Singh, committee convenor, said the SAD-BJP government had been ruling in the state for the past 10 years, and in this period of time, trade and industry had suffered a lot. Traders and industrialists had not been getting VAT refunds although before the formation of the present government, easing the VAT refund process was a major promise of the Punjab Government. He alleged that industry in the state was being harassed by the Punjab Pollution Control Board. Industrialists had been cooperating in making the environment pollution-free, yet some corrupt officials were harassing them.

Ravinder Dhir, president of the Beopar Sena, said it was the industry that had suffered the most due to demonetisation. He said many industrial units had been shut for the past two months.
