Continuous rain since Saturday night has created havoc in the city and disrupted residents’ life.

Water-logging was reported from Sodal Road near Preet Nagar, 120-feet road, Kapurthala Road, Police Lines Road and Garha Road. Various intersections, including PAP and Rama Mandi tri-junctions and BMC Chowk, too, remained inundated. roads around the bus-stand and railway station, too, remained flooded, posing a lot of problems to commuters.

Power supply was suspended for almost half of the day in the cantonment area.

Many arterial roads were submerged in water through the day, causing a lot of trouble to commuters. Vehicles were seen moving slowly on streets due to the rain, creating traffic congestions in most of the areas.

There was knee-deep water on various main roads, the worst of them being several colonies, including Rajinder Nagar, Neelamahal and Defence Colony.

Various malls and markets also reported very low footfall owing to the extreme weather for the past two days. According to Mukesh Yadav, manager, MBD Mall, most of the movie shows went vacant last week due to the sudden change in weather. However, no much disruption to the banking and telecom services was reported from anywhere in the city.

According to Surendra Paul, regional director, Indian Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, no more rain is expected in the next 48 hours, but a severe dip in the temperature is expected that could even go up to 2 to 3 degree Celsius in the district.
