Jalandhar, May 25

Residents and family members of a 20-year-old boy, who succumbed to his injuries in a hospital, took out a candlelight march on the Mahavir Marg road here on Friday.

On May 23, Rishabh Gambhir met with an accident near the Guru Nanak Dev stadium when he was on his way to a private mall, where he used to work. He was a BA student of DAV College.

After the accident, a passerby took him to the Guru Nanak Mission Hospital where he breathed his last. The person, who took Rishabh to the hospital, said, “The victim waited for 45 minutes to get first aid treatment as no doctor came forward to treatment him. The delay had resulted in the death of Rishabh.”

Showing a video footage of doctors at the hospital, the family members said, “The doctors gave excuses to operate upon Rishabh by claiming that the hospital didn’t have ventilators and asked to take him to another hospital. However, the man who took him to the hospital requested the doctors to at least provide first aid treatment to stop bleeding, but one of the doctors clearly said the victim could spoil his shirt.”

On the basis CCTV footage received from the spot, the driver of the car that Rishabh’s bike has been identified as Mudit Arora.

Rishabh’s family members demanded strict action against the doctors and the accused.

Rishab’s father Manoj Kumar, a resident of Basti Sekh, said, “The death of my son has exposed inadequacy of hospitals and doctors’ uncooperative attitude. Every hospital should learn from it that how their carelessness could end a family’s hope.” Rishabh was the lone son in his parents.

The hospital staff wasn’t available for comments on the issue. The police have assured the family of actions in the action.
