Girl on the go

While any other person in her position would crib about the two and a half hour metro ride, one side to work from Noida to Gurgaon, not this girl. “That gives some five hours of writing each work day,” exclaims Devanshi Sharma. With five novels to her name, and on to her sixth, she does need that kind of schedule to finish book after book.

On her first ever solo trip, a train ride followed by Literary Fest in Chandigarh, Devanshi’s dress with Donald Duck face plastered all over, is an attempt to step into shoes of Meera, the protagonist of her soon to come fiction – I Think I Am In Love. “Unlike me, Meera is a fashion blogger, so promoting my new book, I am trying to fit the part,” says the girl. A millennial love story, her book takes one through the stages of friend, best friend, more than a friend and love, and the confusion it ensues. One thread that continues in all her works is pursuing one’s aims. “Not to see self or get affected by how people think of you is another thread running in Think I ...”.

Best seller came to her at 21, but as she had already imagined it all early on, so it didn’t take her by surprise. “I know I am on the right path, but there is so much more to do.” Working as a content lead in Gurgaon is what she loves through the day and most of the rest is dedicated to her own books. While writing is one, finding a publisher and marketing another very significant part of her work “For my first, there was a three-month long wait and I was restless through it all,” she confesses. “For me, my book was the best, what took publisher so long failed me.”

Her next is with Srishti Publishers and she’s involved in every step right from cover design to marketing. Further up is a mythology but only a few years down the line and plenty of more books in between, “It’s where my heart and soul is invested” remarks the chirpy, lively girl looking forward to explore Chandigarh.

From Indore to NCR

Always in a co-ed school in Indore, as I walked in to the Miranda House, I dreaded what kind of an all-girls place would it be. Only, to love it from day 1. There is so much more than just studies, so many societies. I participated in many competitions, never won any though. To accept failures and yet to keep pursuing the goals is biggest takeaway from Miranda House. I am a Delhi girl now. Since it is National Capital Region, everything gets blown out of proportions, but it’s fun, even travelling in overcrowded metro.
