Flush of carefree happiness - living coral – is the proud colour of year 2019 as Pantone proclaimed. A symbol to our need for optimism and joyful pursuits — this is one shade that’s going to colour fashion, interiors, life in general in the coming year!

“Colour enhances and influences the way we experience life,” said Laurie Pressman, vice-president, Pantone Color Institute. “As a shade that affirms life through a dual role of energising and nourishing, Pantone Living Coral reinforces how colours can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time,” she added.

Pantone for last 20 years has been dominating the design space by announcing the colour of the year.

Designer Narendra Kumar, director, Amazon Fashion, states, “Living coral is a reaction to rather despondent year that 2018 was to create a warm and upbeat story.”   A smooth transition from peaches and beige of 2018, living coral works well in most design departments. “A pop of colour on footwear or accessory or even a dress – it works well with anything except for bottom wear perhaps,” he asserts. Pantone also cited living coral as a colour of  happiness. A statement says it “symbolizes our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits”—a feeling that, perhaps, people might be craving in today’s landscape.

A tone of orange, vibrant yet mellow, this colour has shown its dominance in not only global trends but India too. It’s a common hair/make-up shade, shares Rachit Malhotra, Femina Plus.

“Close to traditional mehendi, this one has always enjoyed patronage for long. Falling under the gold copper palette, fashion is all set to be more coral. Lips and tips, Rachit also makes a case for fantastic eye undertone. A perfect blend of positive and vibrant with a subtle undertone of femininity is how Deepshikha Gupta, senior VP - Design, Melorra Design Studio, sees it. “Focusing on the endangered coral reefs and taking an optimistic stance of hope, this shade is a refreshing change from last year’s ultraviolet as well. An easy colour to wear, perfect for every skin tone and works beautifully with gold!” Don it head-to-toe shade or use it as a subtle addition to your monotone outfit, Deepshikha says, “Living coral complements gold , and we’re looking forward to exploring this furthe.”
