It was a night of glitz and glamour, energetic performances and a nail-biting finish as the winners of Miss India 2019 were announced in a star-studded ceremony in Mumbai. The annual beauty pageant had conducted a nationwide hunt in 30 states (including the Capital, Delhi). These 30 state winners thereafter, underwent rigorous trainings of 40 days and were made ready for the grand finale. While Neha Dhupia mentored the girls from the East and West zone, actress Dia Mirza was in charge of the North and South zone. During the grand finale, Suman Rao of Rajasthan was announced as the winner of the coveted title. Last year’s winner, Anukreethy Vas from Tamil Nadu, crowned Rao in a rather emotional moment. Suman Rao will now be representing India at Miss World 2019. The other top two winners are Shreya Shankar from Bihar and Shivani Jadhav from Chattisgarh. The evening also saw power packed performances by Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal.

Former queens speak up

Talking at the event, Neha Dupia said, “I started my journey with Miss India and since then it has been a never-ending relationship with the pageant. Every year I see a fresh lot of ambitious girls.” Dia Mirza added, “Miss India created a paradigm shift in my life and I hope the same for these girls too. The legacy of Miss India is extra ordinary, I will give my best from my end to girls.”
