The new-age fusion music marked its arrival in the mainstream since the year 2000 with bands like Cocoon, Arcade Fire, Death Cab for Cutie, Arctic Monkeys, and The Cooks among many others. Not only did these bands define a different slant to the done-to-death music genre, but in their quest to discover and create something new, they created a line of audience for ‘alternate’ music.

Though Marian Hill’s early 2017-released song called Down didn’t make it big on the commercial charts, it picked up on the Internet garnering 5,07,000 views. The song has been recorded by an American electronic duo Marian Hill as a single from their debut album Act One. It owes its commercial popularity to the Apple in an AirPods commercial featuring Lil Buck gravity dancing to Down. Thereby debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 and Alternative Songs chart. The song became a sleeper hit, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song later entered the top 40 of the chart and peaked at number 21. 

There’s, therefore, a good-enough reason to add this one to your playlist! P.S. it doesn’t matter if your phone isn’t as selfish and self-obsessed as the “i”phone!

Marian Hill is an American song-writing duo from Philadelphia, comprising production artist Jeremy Lloyd and vocalist Samantha Gongol. Their name comes from two characters, Marian Paroo and Harold Hill, from the musical The Music Man. The group released their debut EP, Play, in 2013, which featured improvisational jazz musician Steve Davit. Two years later, they announced the availability of another EP, Sway. They made their television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden in September 2015. The duo released four singles throughout 2016, leading up to their debut album; Act One.

What I really like about this song is the tint of jazz music thrown in parts. It’s an invigorating and stirring composition that fuses R&B, jazz, and electronic music in a rather trippy symphony.

I love the track; it’s been playing in my car for the longest time now. The song just fits into any mould or situation you’re in, like when you’re exercising or just reading a book. It’s fast and slow, and high and low at the same time.
