The police claimed to have nabbed two members of a gang that has been involved in smuggling of liquor from nearby states and selling the same in violation of provision of the State Excise Act.
80 cartons of liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh only were recovered from the premises of the suspects situated at Katahari village of Ludhiana district. The accused were identified as Navjot Singh and Kirandeep Singh of Katahari village.
DSP Hardeep Singh Cheema said SHO Payal Kuljinder Singh Grewal, had received information of alleged activities of a gang led by Navjot Singh and Kirandeep Singh. Though the police are yet to ascertain exact modus operandi and constitution of the gang, the police was told that the suspects used to smuggle, stock and sell liquor of various brands, that was supposed to be sold in states other than Punjab.
Cops led by Mukhtiar Singh and accompanied by Excise inspector Hardeep Singh raided premises related with illegal activity of the suspects and recovered at least 80 cartons of unauthorized stocks of Naina Whiskey (55 cartons ) and 777 brand ( 25 cartons ) of liquor stocked in a pigeon shelter and verandah. The seized liquor was supposed to be sold in Chandigarh UT only.
