Burglary at medical officer’s house on PAU campus

LUDHIANA: A house of a medical officer posted at PHC, Patto Hira Singh in Moga, was burgled by thieves on Friday night.

A house of a medical officer posted at PHC, Patto Hira Singh in Moga, was burgled by thieves on Friday night. The house is situated on the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) campus in Ludhiana.

It is owned by Dr Sanjay Pawar. As per the complaint submitted by the house owner to the PAU police station, 50 tolas of gold ornaments were stolen by the thieves.

House owner Sanjay stated to the police that on March 8 around 5.30 pm, he, along with his wife Babita Pawar, went to their second house situated in Ambala.

On Saturday morning, when he reached back around 8 am, he was shocked to see that a bid was made to break the locks of the main door.

“Later, when I went inside, I found the locks of the almirah broken and all gold ornaments lying in the almirah were missing. The missing gold ornaments weighing 50 tolas, including five gold sets, two bangles, gold chain, gold locket, two gold rings and other gold ornaments,” the house owner said.

Dr Pawar suspected that thieves had entered the house by scaling the outer wall and later by breaking the door from the rooftop.

Police officials said that CCTV cameras of the PAU campus were being checked to get a clue about the thieves.

Another house burgled

Thieves also targeted a house at Dharmpura from where they decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth lakhs. House owner Sonu Kapoor stated to the police that on March 6, all family members slept in their rooms. The next morning when they woke up, they found that thieves had stolen Rs 53,000 and several tolas of gold ornaments. The police have registered a case.

Ornaments stolen

  • As per the complaint submitted by the house owner to the PAU police station, 50 tolas of gold ornaments were stolen by the thieves.
  • Police officials said that CCTV cameras on the PAU campus were being checked.
