Cricket tourney: Hosts NSPS emerge champs

LUDHIANA: Nankana Sahib Public School (NSPS), Gill Park, defeated Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, by 13 runs to emerge champions in the Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex Cricket Tournament (U-19), which concluded here on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, January 11

Nankana Sahib Public School (NSPS), Gill Park, defeated Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, by 13 runs to emerge champions in the Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex Cricket Tournament (U-19), which concluded here on Wednesday.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, NSPS scored 107 runs after losing two wickets in the stipulated 10 overs. Shubham made 58 runs, while Samar and Omesh contributed 17 and 16 runs, respectively.

For Sacred Heart School, Vatsal captured both the wickets after conceding 25 runs.

In reply, despite useful contribution by Tanvir (40) and Chirag (30), Sacred Heart School could muster 94 runs losing seven wickets. Archit chipped in with 11 runs. For the winning side, Tanvir took three wickets for 17 runs while Amritpal got two wickets for 13 runs.

For the hard-line cup, the match was played between St Thomas Senior Secondary School and HVM Convent School in which the former won by 12 runs to secure the third position. St Thomas made 80 runs for the loss of two wickets in which the main contributors were Jatin and Hritik, who scored 49 and 10 runs, respectively.

For HVM School, Akash gave away 10 runs and grabbed one wicket. Chasing the target, HVM School made 68 runs after losing seven wickets in which the main run getters were Akash (16), Ritik (11) and Rahul (11).

For the winners, Varun secured two wickets for 16 runs, Kartiya got rid of two batsmen after giving away 18 runs and Mahul captured one wicket for 12 runs. Harmeet Kaur Waraich, Principal of the NSPS, distributed prizes among the winners. — OSC
