Dr AS Nanda completes term as GADVASU VC

LUDHIANA: After giving a new shape to Punjab’s livestock sector through research, academics and extension delivery system for the promotion of White and Blue Revolutions, Dr AS Nanda relinquishes services as the Vice- Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University after completing his term.

After giving a new shape to Punjab’s livestock sector through research, academics and extension delivery system for the promotion of White and Blue Revolutions, Dr AS Nanda relinquishes services as the Vice- Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University after completing his term.

Nanda, a renowned veterinary scientist and policy maker, was appointed the VC in February 2015.

He remained the VC for four years and according to sources, his term will not be extended now. It has also been learnt from sources that till the appointment of the new VC, an IAS official will be working as the acting VC. The government has also called a meeting for the appointment of new VC.

Nanda has led the university through the commissioning of new buildings and multispecialty veterinary hospital on the campus and for the renewal of the animal husbandry sector in Punjab. Working closely with the state government, Dr Nanda, through his initiatives, has helped thousands of farmers in accessing knowledge about animal husbandry sector.

In a long inning of 40 years’ service (1979-2019), he served as a teacher, researcher and scientific coordinator and held positions of animal husbandry commissioner, GOI, (2010-13), Vice-Chancellor of Nanaji Deshumukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur (MP).

Born in Kanjali village, near historical Kali Wein in Kapurthala district, he had a meritorious academic record. After his graduation and Masters in Animal Reproduction from PAU, Ludhiana, he completed his fellowship of the Royal Veterinary College of Sweden (FRVCS) from Sweden in 1983 and Ph. D from UK in 1989. While sharing his thoughts, Dr Nanda said scientists should attempt more research work and projects in future.
