Elderly man run over by truck, driver flees

LUDHIANA: A 74-year-old man was killed when his scooter was hit from behind by a truck near railway station last night.

Ludhiana, June 17

A 74-year-old man was killed when his scooter was hit from behind by a truck near railway station last night. The deceased has been identified as Amlok Singh Dutta of Simran Enclave in Haibowal.

The truck driver escaped after the accident. After getting information, the police reached the spot and started investigation. The body was sent to Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital.

A case under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50), 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC was registered against the truck driver at the Division Number 1 police station. The police said efforts were on to arrest the truck driver. The police have impounded the truck.
