Students and teachers at the Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Jawahar Nagar, heaved a sigh of relief today as the EVMs, which were lying in the school for the past two months, were shifted today. The matter was reported by The Tribune on July 12.

As many as 16 rooms of the school were locked due to the EVMs, and left with no other option, the classes were held in make-shift arrangements at other blocks and rooms, and sometimes in the open porch. The high wing, vocational wing and science wing had been lying closed since the elections got over as the EVMs were stored there. Even the staff room and the ROT room were locked as they were given to the security.

Anuradha Nanda, principal of the school, said: “The EVMs have finally been shifted from the school campus and now we can put into use the 16 rooms, which were earlier occupied by the EVMs and security guards. Now, the first priority tomorrow will be to get the rooms and furniture cleaned and put them back to use. With the arrival of monsoon, it was becoming extremely difficult for us to carry on with the classes.”

Not only this, but also the work for turning the school into a smart school had taken a backseat as classrooms were lying locked. “Now that the classrooms have been opened, the work for turning school into a smart school will be started soon,” she said.

A teacher from the school said they would now be able to sit comfortably in the staff room. “Since the school opened after the vacations, there was no room for us to sit as it was occupied by the security. Things will become normal from tomorrow onwards,” she said.
