Filth around Doraha civil dispensary irks residents

Despite appeals, demonstrations and warnings by residents of the town, health facilities for a town with a population of about 30,000 has been poor with no government ever being serious about providing these to them.

Leave alone proper health care facilities, the sanitation condition around the civil dispensary, Doraha, is very bad. That is why, patients have to think twice before visiting the facility. Heaps of garbage around the dispensary prevent patients from visiting it. They fear they may be struck by another disease by just visiting the spot.

“With nearby area of the dispensary strewn with filth, fewer patients dare visit it for seeing a doctor. Is the civil dispensary a proper place for patients to visit when it has heaps of garbage around? Maybe, one could get infection instead of treatment here,” quip residents of Doraha.

“The government boasts of providing best medical facilities to the needy, but it is not possible till the sanitation condition is poor. Where should we go in emergency? Private doctors are beyond our reach and medical facilities provided by the government are in bad shape,” shared a daily wager.

“Poor patients can hardly see a doctor in hour of need as due to hefty fee of private hospitals, they prefer to sit back and suffer. My wife was suffering from food poisoning the other day. I took her to a private hospital, but failed to bear the hospital expenses. The Payal Civil Hospital is based at a distance. An NGO then came to my aid and saved the life of my wife whose condition deteriorated as I brought her back,” shared a daily wager.

“My husband suffered a snake bite and I had no means to approach a private hospital. I took him to the charitable dispensary of Doraha and luckily, his life was saved. Had it not been for the dispensary, I would have lost my husband,” shared a woman.
