MC’s hot mix plant has been closed, while many roads are still crying for attention in the city. The plant earlier resumed functioning from October 1 after remaining closed for three months during the rainy season. Commuters are a harried lot, as several major roads in various parts of the city are yet to be repaired. Besides, patchwork has not been conducted in the internal streets of various colonies.

Potholes appeared on Deepak Cinema Road before the rainy season, but these have not been repaired. The road is badly damaged near the Giaspura flyover in Focal Point area, while potholed roads in Giaspura are still crying for attention. Residents also complained about potholes on link roads that connect Tajpur Road with other areas.

“The MC should ensure the repair of roads as bikers generally lose balance due to potholes. A portion of road at the start of Dhandari flyover is damaged, but the civic body has not repaired the potholes. Due to overflowing sewage, roads in various other parts ofDhandari and adjoining areas have also damaged. The civic body must pay attention to get these roads repaired at the earliest,” said RK Yadav, leader of Samajwadi Party, Punjab unit.

“Potholes are likely to create more trouble for commuters during fog. The MC must find an alternative to repair roads whenever the hot mix plant is closed during rainy and winter seasons,” said Satish Thaman, a senior citizen.

MC’s executive engineer Parveen Singla said the hot mix plant was closed just two ago on a temporary basis as the temperature was low.

Superintending Engineer Dharam Singh said they have carried out patchwork in various parts of the city. “We can’t run the hot mix plant as the material would get wasted. If patches are laid in low temperature, they start peeling off. The plant is likely to be reopened after the winter season,” he said.
