Lohri celebrated with fervour at RIMT

KHANNA: Lohri is the festival that marks the beginning of harvest season and RIMT University, Mandi Gobindgarh celebrated it with fun and frolic. The students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri.

Lohri is the festival that marks the beginning of harvest season and RIMT University, Mandi Gobindgarh celebrated it with fun and frolic. The students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. On this occasion, Dr Hukum Chand Bansal, Chairman, RIMT University talked about the importance of festival Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season and congratulated the staff and the students on the occasion.

Dr AS Chawla, vice-chancellor talked about the welcoming trend in our culture where Lohri is not only celebrated when a boy is born in a family, rather the baby girls are welcomed with equal joy and gaiety. Speaking on the occasion, pro vice-chancellor, RIMT university, Dr BS Bhatia, advised the youth to recognise the worth of their cultural values and say no to the social evils such as female feticide. Punjabi tradition was truly depicted as bonfire was lit and students performed gidha, boliyan and lok geet. Students also showcased their talent by performing street play which conveyed the message against female foeticite. A variety of traditional dishes such as makki ki roti, sarson ka saag and shakkar were also introduced that were relished by all. All the deans were present on the occasion and celebrated the festival with full festivity and fervour.
