Principals from as many as 50 schools from across the state participated in an interactive workshop on “Leadership styles and decision making” at Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha, today.

G Balasubramaniam, a certified master trainer in skills development from Glasgow, UK, was the resource person of the event. He apprised participants of various techniques and tools which can prove fruitful in decision making policies and imbibing leadership characteristics in students and teachers for the growth of the institution. A wide range of yoga- related activities were also demonstrated by national awardee Sanjiv Tyagi.

Balasubramaniam asked the heads of institutions to create opportunities for staff and students so that the teaching-learning process became an interesting affair. “The teacher and the taught should look forward each day to something creative, interesting and engrossing so that the school becomes a place where they desire to spend their maximum time and put in their best of efforts without fear,” said Balasubramaniam.

“As the world comes closer, each institution should gear up to face challenges in the field of education by putting innovative and experimental learning on the forefront. World is fast growing and so are the demands and expectations of the stakeholders. School should tune in with those demands and expectations if they have to survive and face global challenges. But in no case, the values so essential for staff and students to imbibe, be sacrificed at the altar of technological advancement,” Balasubramaniam asserted.

Praising the efforts of G Balasubramaniam, DP Thakur, principal of the host school, said: “It was an amazing experience for all. The workshop taught us how to uplift our institutional standards by way of discussing, understanding and internalising practical problems related to education. It was a great cultural exchange as people from diverse backgrounds exchanged ideas.”

He thanked the resource person and principals for attending the workshop. Members of school management appreciated the initiative taken by the Sahodaya School Complex (Khanna East) to modify education in a globalised manner.
