Ludhiana, February 20

Leader of the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, today campaigned in favour of candidates contesting Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) elections on the tickets of Aam Aadmi Party-Lok Insaf Party alliance.

Khaira took part in rallies and election meetings organised by alliance candidates in Harnam Nagar, Gurdev Nagar, Dugri, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar and the Sunet areas.

Addressing an election meeting in Harnam Nagar for alliance candidate Mehak Tinna from Ward No. 66, Khaira said the AAP-LIP alliance had fielded educated, honest and dedicated people in the MC poll.

“In comparison to candidates fielded by the SAD-BJP and the Congress, contenders chosen by the AAP-LIP alliance are educated and honest. Unlike traditional political parties, our aim is not mere win the elections. We are contesting these elections with the objective of changing politics,” he added.

“We have chosen Prof Komal Gurnoor Singh, who resigned from his post and entered politics with sole objective of cleaning the political setup. I strongly feel that educated and honest youths should come forward and join politics to bring a change in the political system,” he said while seeking votes for alliance candidate Prof Gurnoor, who is contesting MC elections from Ward No 69.

“Politics is considered as a dirty game. Most youths do not want to enter politics. Youngsters need to join politics and clean up the system,” he added.

Accusing both Akali Dal and Congress leaders of indulging in corruption, he said, “Voters now are smart and they want to elect people with an honest and clean image.”

Accepting that AAP lacks resources at its disposal as compared to Akali Dal and Congress, he added that the party had plenty of dedicated and selfless workers willing to strengthen it.

He stressed that voters also need to change their slavery mindset. “Generally the people think they need political approach to get their work done by the administration. Even educated class has such mindset. If educated class is not free from this psychology then what can we expect from the illiterate and poor voters,” asked Khaira.

He also campaigned for alliance candidates Pawandeep Singh and Jagdeep Singh Ghuman, who are contesting from Ward No. 70 and 72, respectively. Senior AAP leaders Ehbaab Singh Grewal, Darshan Singh Shankar, Rajinderpal Kaur and Gurjit Kaur were also present during the campaigning.
