Kavita, Katha Karvan, a literary body, organised a ‘Hasya Kavi Darbar’ in the seminar room of Punjabi Bhawan on Sunday evening. Various poets from the state participated in the event. Guests of honour for the event included eminent poets and scholars, namely Sardar Panchhi, Kuldeep Bedi, Surjit Judge and Dr Jagtar Dhiman, who interacted with participants.

Several other poets, who enthralled the audience with their poetry soaked with comic content, included Malkit Singh Paapi, Shivendra Sehgal, Vinod Kumar, Manoj Preet, Jagdev Singh Gunghrali and Sandip Sharma, among others. Through a comical twist in their poetry, they voiced their views on the prevalent social concerns of society.

The event also witnessed the launch of two books, Punjabi boom titled Asin Nahin Sudhrange and a Hindi book Dil to Bekabu Hai, both authored by Dr Jas Kohli, a city-based cosmetic surgeon. Dr Jagtar Dhiman spoke on the contents of the books and writing style of Dr Kohli. He said humour was vital for that was utmost need of the hour for the health of contemporary society.

Veteran Urdu poet Sardar Panchhi said: “We used to relish humour-based poetry around Holi but the tradition is lost with time. It is a matter of happiness to listen to poetry in the programme held by Kavita, Katha Karvan.”

Kuldeep Bedi said the expressions of a poet must be creative, realistic and righteous, adding that humour-based poetic sessions were need of the hour.

Surjit Judge read his poems with his familiar cynical verse style on various issues, including prevailing political system and social fabric of our society.

Prof ‘Falak’, while welcoming the participating poets, shared that KKK endeavoured to provide a platform to budding poets for their creative expression. Guests of Honour and the participating poets were honoured with floral mementoes.
