On the basis of the guidelines issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the schools affiliated with it in Ludhiana have appointed psychologists to beat stress among students.

Schools are the foremost institutes where behavioral changes in students can be tracked and addressed.

The school heads have appointed counsellors who take care of the sensitive issues concerning students. BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School has set up a Counselling Cell on its campus. Three trained psychologists have been appointed for students studying in kindergarten, Class V to VIII and Class IX to XII.

“Sometimes students hesitate and do not share major issues affecting their life with teachers and parents. If a teacher notices any change in the nature of a student, including lack of interest in studies, unfriendly with classmates, not having his meals properly etc, then we take the assistance of psychologists,” said Principal of BCM Arya Model Senior Secodary School Paramjit Kaur.

Navpreet Bhattal, a psychologist at BCM, said: “There is a great need to address the issues related to students in particular mental stress. We follow the guidelines issued by the CBSE.” Guru Nanak Public School has appointed a psychologist who make sure that students stay on track and assists them when needed. Proper sessions were being conducted related to value education, meditation and yoga.

GNPS Principal Mona Singh said: “Major issues that affect students are quarrels between parents, nuclear family and peer pressure.”

Navita Puri, Principal of KVM School said social media has a negative impact on students’ health. She said children are spending very little time in grounds as a result, they lack in physical and mental fitness.
