The Ludhiana Police, led by Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Agrawal, today observed Police Commemoration Day here at Police Lines to pay tributes to the martyrs belonging to police and para-military forces.

While speaking on the occasion, Agrawal urged people to fight the anti-national forces jointly. He said: “It is only because of the great sacrifices of our martyrs, that we are able to live peacefully. They are the ones who ensure communal harmony.”

The Police Commissioner paid tributes to the police and para-military personnel who attained martyrdom between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019 in different parts of the country. A contingent of police presented a salute to the martyrs, while the officials and dignitaries present on the occasion observed a two-minute silence in the memory of the martyrs.

ACP’s Prabhjot Kaur and Jashanjeet Singh read out the list of officials and jawans of police and para-military forces who sacrificed their lives during the past one year.

While narrating the historical importance of ‘Police Commemoration Day Parade’ Agrawal said it was observed by the police department of all the states and the para-military forces throughout the country to pay tributes to the jawans of CRPF, who had attained martyrdom on October 21, 1959 at Hot Springs (Ladakh) during an assault by the Chinese Army. He also lauded the sacrifices made by the Punjab Police in combating militancy in Punjab as well as fighting internal disturbances in other states for maintaining peace and communal harmony.

The Commissioner of Police said during the dark days of terrorism, a total of 117 police personnel of Ludhiana police had laid down their lives while combating terrorism. He assured that the Punjab Police was standing rock solid with their families, which were residing in Ludhiana. On the occasion, families of martyrs were honoured. Floral tributes were also paid to the martyrs at the memorial constructed in the Police Lines, here.
