Swimming trials on tomorrow

Ludhiana: The selection trials to select the Ludhiana swimming teams (senior men and women) and men's water-polo team will be held at the swimming pool of Punjab Agricultural University on August 19. Apinder Singh Grewal, president of the District Swimming Association (DSA), Ludhiana, said swimmers had been advised to report to Ajay Sharma, organising secretary, at the trials venue. The swimmers achieving the qualifying timings set by the Punjab Swimming Association would participate in the 41st Abhey Oswal Senior Punjab Swimming and Water-Polo Championship scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 2. BCM, Dugri, lads lift cricket title

Ludhiana: BCM Senior Secondary School, Dugri, scripted a thrilling six-run win over BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, to emerge as champions in the Punjab Schools Cricket Tournament (U-14) that concluded at Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, on Thursday. Teams from 21 schools participated in this tournament organised by the district Education Department. In the finals, BCM School, Dugri, batting first, made 83 runs for the loss of one wicket in the allotted 10 overs. Garav was the architect of their innings. He remained unbeaten on 60 runs while Guneet chipped in with 15 runs. Chasing the target, BCM School, Shastri Nagar, could muster 77 runs after losing nine wickets in which the main contributors were Ashmit and Naman who made 23 and 13 runs, respectively. In the match for the hard-line cup, Bal Bharti Public School beat Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, by 10 wickets to secure third position. OC
