AHMEDGARH: The local unit of the Bhartia Valmiki Dharam Samaj has launched social welfare programme to commemorate the Valmiki Jayanti.

The local unit of the Bhartia Valmiki Dharam Samaj has launched social welfare programme to commemorate the Valmiki Jayanti.

Besides providing free books and stationery, the outfit has launched the Save Earth movement by planting saplings of shady and fruit trees. Prabhat pheris are also being organised to pay tributes to Maharishi Valmiki and spread awareness on causes and consequences of social evils, including illiteracy, violence against women, foeticide and caste discrimination.

Giving more information on the movement the project convener, Sohan Lal Ghoshi, said saplings of shade and fruit trees had been planted at public places, along roads and in streets. “Earlier, we used to organise langars and other events to celebrate Valmiki Jayanti, but this year we have drafted a programme to save environment and help needy students,” he added.

The Municipal Council president, Shiraj Mohammad, said he had advised the civic body staff and the executive officer, Gurdeep Singh Bhogal, to play an active role in welfare projects being launched by from time to time.
