‘Namaste Pacific’ showcases region’s culture

NEW DELHI:The High Commissions of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea jointly organised “Namaste Pacific”, an event to celebrate the life and culture of the Pacific region, on Friday night.

New Delhi, August 31

The High Commissions of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea jointly organised “Namaste Pacific”, an event to celebrate the life and culture of the Pacific region, on Friday night.

“We are conscious that Indians have very few opportunities to talk of or understand Pacific culture, the event is great opportunity…” Australian High Commissioner Harinder Sidhu said. Many Pacific island countries, which have High Commissions in Delhi, are small and the idea was to pool resources to showcase the unique Pacific culture, she said.

Among those at the event included para-athlete Deepa Malik with Secretary (East) Vijay Thakur Singh as the guest of honour. Many guests, including members of the diplomatic corps in Delhi, turned up in bright Pacific Island dresses.

On her part, the New Zealand High Commissioner Joanna Kempkers, who hosted the event at her residence, took time to prepare herself headbands decorated with flowers for the women. She said when one thinks of Pacific, one thinks of beautiful colours and fresh flowers.  — TNS
