The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the plea for a probe by a special investigation team (SIT) against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on allegations that two companies paid Rs 65 crore to him ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha poll.

The allegations were based on computer entries seized by authorities during raids on these companies--Sahara group and Aditya Birla group.

A Bench comprising Justices JS Khehar and Arun Mishra said, “The entire world can be roped in” if action was to be taken on such material.

Any unscrupulous person could make such computer entries, it told senior counsel Shanti Bhushan who argued for PIL petitioner NGO Common Cause.

The Bench, however, granted time till December 14 to the petitioner for providing much better material in support of its plea and adjourned further hearing till then.
