Underlining Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s own “outsider” background, BJP leaders today berated him for his “divisive” claims that jobs given to people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh deny employment to youth of his state.

Nath has announced incentives to industries that give 70 per cent of their jobs to those from his state, saying people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were getting employment in Madhya Pradesh at the cost of the local population.

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said Nath appeared to be unaware of existing rules that prioritise jobs for the native population. “He has also been a Union minister. He should be aware of these rules. What he is talking about is already in place. By making such a claim, he is misleading people,” the BJP Lok Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh said.

Meanwhile, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijaywargiya accused Nath of promoting “divisive” politics and pitting one region against another.

Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, Vijaywargiya wondered if the “outsider” tag should also be applied in politics. “Kamal Nath was born in Kanpur. He received his education in (West) Bengal. His business is spread across the country. He is now Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Such a statement does not behove him,” said Vijaywargiya, who also belongs to the state.

Migrants getting job on merit: Bihar parties

  • Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar slammed MP CM Kamal Nath, saying it was nothing but an attack on the Constitutional fabrics
  • “They (Bihar and UP migrants) get jobs because of their talent and merit and as per the Constitution. What is Kamal Nath's problem?” said the JD (U) spokesperson
  • RJD spokesperson Bhai Birendra said Kamal Nath should have refrained from delivering such controversial remarks as all states are an integral part of the country
