India will soon have its own bullet train network as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signed an agreement in this regard with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe today.

The High Speed elevated Rail corridor between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will cost about Rs 98,000 crore. Announcing the agreement at a joint media event here, Modi said: “No less historic is our decision to introduce High Speed Rail on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector through Japan’s Shinkansen, known for its speed, reliability and safety.”

He also appreciated Abe’s extraordinary package of around $12 billion (Rs 98,000 crore) and technical assistance, on very easy terms, for this project. The bullet train network will link India’s financial capital Mumbai with Ahmedabad.
