CBI files charges against Marans

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a charge sheet against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran for allegedly having used high-speed data lines installed at his residence for his private TV channel and causing losses of Rs 1.78 crore to the exchequer.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a charge sheet against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran for allegedly having used high-speed data lines installed at his residence for his private TV channel and causing losses of Rs 1.78 crore to the exchequer.

The agency has claimed 764 telephone numbers were provided to Dayanidhi for which Maran was not billed, casuing losses to BSNL, Chennai and MTNL, Delhi.

The CBI has charged Maran, his brother, Sun TV Network Limited Managing Director Kalanithi Maran; two former chief general managers of BSNL; two executives of Sun TV network and an aide of Dayanidhi with criminal conspiracy and forgery as well as corruption, the CBI said. — PTI
