India, China vow to boost ties through military drills

NEW DELHI: The India-China military exercise “Hand-in-Hand” concluded at Kunming (China) today. During the 12-day-long counter-terrorism drill, troops from both sides trained together and learned from each other in mixed groups on basic individual skills such as combat boxing, basic mountaineering and shooting, said Col Rohan Anand, spokesperson of the Indian Army.

The India-China military exercise “Hand-in-Hand” concluded at Kunming (China) today.

During the 12-day-long counter-terrorism drill, troops from both sides trained together and learned from each other in mixed groups on basic individual skills such as combat boxing, basic mountaineering and shooting, said Col Rohan Anand, spokesperson of the Indian Army.

A joint field exercise depicting counter-terrorist operations on the India-China border areas was held from October 21 to 22.

Lt Gen AL Chavan, head of the Indian Army’s observer group, said the intimate understanding and goodwill generated during the exercise would go a long way in strengthening military ties between the two armies.

Maj Gen Zhang Bing, deputy chief of staff of Chengdu Military Command and head of the Chinese observer group, said this was the fifth joint counter-terrorist exercise depicting the power of both countries to fight terrorism together.
