Mark dangerous ‘selfie points’: MHA to states

NEW DELHI:The Centre has asked states to identify “selfie points” in and around tourist spots where accidents occur frequently and take measures to ensure safety of people.

New Delhi, April 3

The Centre has asked states to identify “selfie points” in and around tourist spots where accidents occur frequently and take measures to ensure safety of people.

The missive has gone to states following reports of several such incidents in recent past, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir informed the Lok Sabha.

He said announcing safety provisions for tourists, including precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident such as declaring “no-selfie zones” at popular tourist sites, was the primary responsibility of the state governments and the administration in UTs.

An advisory has been issued by the Ministry of Tourism, which included identification of tourist spots that were prone to accidents, erection of signboards, warning the visitors of the danger involved in taking selfies at such locations, posting volunteers or tourist police personnel at such places, sensitisation through public address systems. — TNS
