Lucknow, October 16

Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Yadav do not find a place in the newly chosen national executive committee, the list of which was officially released on Monday.

The father and son apparently came closer in recent days after Mulayam made it clear that he had no intention of floating a political party. They made their first public appearance together at Lohia Park on the occasion of Ram Manohar Lohia’s anniversary on October 12.

Despite this, Mulayam has been given no formal post in the national executive that is to be submitted to the Election Commission. Responding to a question about the party patriarch still being the patron as decided after the January 1 coup in the party, SP spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury said he was not aware of any such post.

As per the list released by SP’s principal general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday, Kironmay Nanda has been retained as the party’s national vice-president.

The executive would have 10 general secretaries, including Azam Khan, Naresh Agarwal and Indrajeet Saroj who had recently quit the BSP to join the SP.

The new national executive has an equal number of 10 secretaries and 25 members, including Jaya Bachchan and six special invitees. Rajya Sabha MP and builder Sanjay Seth remains the party’s treasurer.
