A Congress legislator from Rajasthan has been accused of raping a 38-year-old woman repeatedly for two years, police said.

In her complaint, a woman claimed that Johari Lal Meena, Member of Legislative Assembly for Alwar’s Rajgarh Laxmangarh assembly segment, met her when he toured her village two years ago, and visited her house frequently after that. When she fell ill, he pretended he would take her to a doctor but took her to a hotel at Mehanidpur Balaji instead, the complaint said. At the hotel, he allegedly gave her two pills that made her unconscious, and then raped her—an act he is believed to have recorded.

He then began to use the video to blackmail her and continued to rape her.

On April 10, the victim approached a court with her complaint. The court directed police to register an FIR on Friday. Because the complaint involves an elected representative, Rajasthan’s Crime Branch is investigating the case, police said.

The legislator was unavailable for comment.
