Former actress Urmila Matondkar, who quit the Congress party alleging major infighting in its Mumbai unit, on Tuesday denied reports that she was joining the Shiv Sena.

“I am not joining any other party so it’s a kind request to the media to kindly not share whatever they hear. It is unfair towards me to say the least and also not appropriate towards any party,” Matondkar said in a statement here.

Earlier today, several television channels reported that Matondkar had met with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s personal secretary Milind Narvekar and was in the process of joining the regional party.

Matondkar had contested as the Congress party’s candidate in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency in the parliamentary elections earlier this year.

She lost to BJP’s outgoing Member of Parliament Gopal Shetty.

“My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a mean to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress,” she had said while resigning from the Congress party.
