PM to embark on Southeast Asian tour; to visit Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Indonesia and Singapore—with a brief stopover at Malaysia—from May 29-June 2, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Indonesia and Singapore—with a brief stopover at Malaysia—from May 29-June 2, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Monday.

The prime minister will visit Indonesia from May 29-31 and Singapore from May 31-June 2, the statement said. He will briefly stop at Kuala Lumpur on May 31 to meet the newly elected Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad.

“Prime Minister’s official engagements in Jakarta and Singapore include bilateral meetings with the leadership, delegation level talks, meetings with the business and Indian communities. In Singapore, Prime Minister will also deliver the keynote address at the 17th Shangri-la Dialogue,” the statement read.  

“Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, three countries in ASEAN, are Strategic Partners of India. Government of India attaches high importance to its relations with the ASEAN region and is committed to deepening its relationship with individual ASEAN member states, within the framework of Government’s Act East Policy. The visit would enable the leaders to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest,” the statement said. Agencies
