Prez honours cinematic excellence at film awards

NEW DELHI: Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, the 46th recipient of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award, could not make it to the 62nd National Film Awards due to ill health, but was recognised with a special documentary and a standing ovation by the audience here.

Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, the 46th recipient of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award, could not make it to the 62nd National Film Awards due to ill health, but was recognised with a special documentary and a standing ovation by the audience here.

President Pranab Mukherjee hailed Kapoor, the third in his family to get Indian cinema’s highest award after father Prithviraj Kapoor and brother Raj Kapoor, as a “living legend”.
While actress Kangana Ranaut took home the best actress National Award for her portrayal of a young girl left at the altar by her fiance in "Queen", South Indian star Vijay won the best actor trophy for his role in Kannada film "Nanu Avanalla Avalu". 
Vishal Bhardwaj and Sukhwinder Singh were bestowed with the award for the best music director (Rajat Kamal and Rs 50,000) and best singer (Rajat Kamal and Rs 50,000) for "Haider", a Kashmir-set modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Priyanka Chopra-starrer ‘Mary Kom’ won best popular film providing wholesome entertainment. — PTI
