SAD leader Sirsa hits out at Amitabh Sinha, demands action by BJP

NEW DELHI: While Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Yogesh Tyagi is still to intervene into the battle between Dyal Singh (Day) College principal Dr Inderjeet Singh Bakshi and college governing body chairperson Amitabh Sinha, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has backed the former demanding action against Sinha by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

While Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Yogesh Tyagi is still to intervene into the battle between Dyal Singh (Day) College principal Dr Inderjeet Singh Bakshi and college governing body (GB) chairperson Amitabh Sinha, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has backed the former demanding action against Sinha by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

A BJP affiliate, Sinha, is drawing flak for "meddling" into the administrative affairs of the Dyal Singh College.

Sinha reversed the college election committee's September 18 suspension order of newly elected college students' union president Rohan Awana, who is associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Sinha also held a governing body’s meeting on Monday on the issue followed by issuing a notice to the college principal directing him to proceed on leave over allegations of administrative and financial lapses.

In the wake of the ongoing crisis in Dyal Singh College administration, Sirsa accused Sinha of targeting the college principal as the latter opposed his idea of changing name of the college’s evening branch to Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya, an issue, which had become a flashpoint between the principal and the governing body head and on which Sirsa too had last November approached the Union HRD Minister.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee general secretary in tweet questioned, “Won’t any senior BJP leader take action against this ruthless leader who wants to establish his supremacy hurting Sikh sentiments?”

“Now @amitabhsinhabjp is taking revenge with the principal of Dyal Singh College I.S Bakshi Ji bcos he stood for Dyal Singh name.  Is there any limit to this man’s fascist ways?” Sirsa added.

“@amitabhsinhabjp first hurt Sikhs all across the world with his fancy of changing name of Dyal Singh College to Vande Mataram College,” added Sirsa adding the GB chairman didn’t even adhere to the words of @PrakashJavdekar Ji ,” tweeted the Rajouri Garden MLA.

Over the developments that have unfolded since last week, the Delhi University Principals’ Association has backed Dr Bakshi who has already received support from the DSCTA demanding that the governing body chairman be immediately removed.

DSCTA president Dr P K Parihar said students and karmacharis are also extending their support. The issue also found resonance in the Dyal Singh College Staff Council meeting chaired by the college principal.

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has decided to extend its solidarity to the Dyal Singh College teachers on the issue.

“Removal of governing body chairman has been included in DUTA’s flash protest on September 27. We support the teachers’ body on its demand but this is not to give a clean chit to Dr Bakshi,” said DUTA president Rajib Ray.
